It's a stupid law. I understand the French are trying to preserve what's left of their rotting "culture", but that's a problem easier solved through stronger immigration laws, not restricting religious freedoms. As silly as burkas are, telling people they can't wear them is no better than telling Jews they can't wear yamulkas, or French women that they must shave their pits.
